“I have been dating this guy for a little over a month now. In the beginning, of course he was very charming and sweet. But what really got me was him saying that he wants open and honesty and friendship in a relationship, going as far as to share intimate details of his life with me. As time progresses, he texts less, has stopped calling altogether, and tells me that he has a gut feeling about me that tells him maybe we would be better off as friends. This is classic player behavior. I want to know a) how to avoid this in the future, and b) if there is any way of getting him to admit that he just used me for sex, so that I can have closure and move on?”

“I have been dating this girl for 3 months and we have had our arguments and one time she didnt contact me for days to punish me , but I apologized and we made up as long as this doesnt happen again.
Anyway she was due to go away with work to thailand and she asked to see me before she went away. she bought me dinner and we discussed all the things we should do when we get back and lots of future talk such as hols together ect. Anyway when she left for her holiday we agreed to meet up when she got back.
While  she was on holiday for the first few days she kept texting regular updates and even said that we should come out together in the future and that although she was having an amazing time she was still looking forward to seeing me when I got back.

“I have been with my boyfriend for around 1 year. In many respects he makes me very happy. He is better looking than me and seems more emotionally intelligent and grounded. I am much more articulate than him and our social groups are very different. Some of my friends are liberal academics and some of his friends are uneducated and racist. I feel embarrassed introducing him to a large proportion of my friends as he doesn’t have the social skills to mix with them. He was bullied at school and like me from a poor background, the bridge between them is too great. He was recently convicted of assaulting an older person which he is adamant he did not do. I believe him on this however I have recently found out that he has a criminal record for petty crimes. In many respects we have a very good relationship but I am concerned about my future if I stay with him. Even if we assume he is innocent with his lack of education/social skills and criminal record I think he will always be poor. I’m not a gold digger, I don’t need to be rich but I don’t want to have a family with someone who cant cover the basics. I don’t want to be the only earner. He runs his own business and it seems to have started well but with everything else I’m just not sure. Being 33 I am worried that the decisions I make now will have rather permanent consequences. Please Help.”

“My boyfreind refuses to talk about his past with me (not just ex girlfreinds, but his past in general, at all). I have been patient and understanding; I understand a difficult past/traums being hard to discuss. But it’s been 4 years now and finally I am begining to get a little pushy with asking questions; it’s like pulling teeth to get him to open up to me. Is it worth it? Why won’t he open up? I have explained to him it bothers me but in respose he shows me only frustration. “I’ll try and change” he’ll say but still he dosn’t seem to grasp the concept and wants me to maintain distance (he tells me that he “likes having his privacy respected” or misses it when I didn’t care or ask about anything). He does not seem to empathize with me or understand my point of view either; he seems to display sociopathic qualities. It all makes me anxious. Is there any explination for this? -I am interested on a psychological level why a person might be like this. Any advice you can give me from your expereince with dealing with people? And is it wrong of me to end it? Thanks!”
