When I first met “John” at Starbucks he was complaining that after his divorce he was dating but none of them were the right woman. It was clear as day that the women he had been dating all possessed pretty much the same qualities that continued to annoy him and press his buttons.

I pointed this out to my new friend and informed John that the reason he was meeting these women who could for all practical purposes be the same woman was because of his heart’s desires did not match his Love Script. When you change your Love Script, you change your ability to attract the relationships you desire. The same rings true for Health, Adventures, Financial Success, Passion and Romance Scripts…

What’s a Love Script? Simply put it is the story you believe and tell yourself and others about a given topic.

So how can a Love Script help you attract the love of your life and the relationship of your dreams? Well it’s different for everyone depending on the mental and emotional blocks you have around love, commitment, communication, faithfulness, Trust, Family, you fill in the blanks. You can uncover your specific script by listening to the way you talk. In John’s case when I asked him to describe his ideal woman he used so many qualifying words (words that limit the flow of what you want) in his description that I had to stop him immediately and back up the train.

John began by saying: “I want a woman who is kind of pretty.” “What do you mean kind of pretty?” I interrupted. “How about a woman that is hot, sexy, turns you on, makes your heart sing when you are around her”. The next thing out of John’s mouth floored me and changed the way I educate my clients forevermore! “You can ask for that?” he asked as he scratched his white beard and patted his bald head. “Sure you can ask for anything you want in a relationship?” I informed, “You are a love magnet for exactly the type of relationship you believe you can have.”

John is a great example because 14 days after he changed his Love Script he said, “Ruth what do I do now? I just met two amazing professional women that match my Love Script to a tee!” I reminded this man with two PhD’s in psychology that he could go back and tweak his Love Script (in his case a single paragraph we wrote on a sheet of paper) that he carried with him until his life matched his Love Story. I instructed John to be even more specific in adding what he wanted to his Love Script and before we knew it he had his dream come true relationship with a wonderful woman he had “scripted.” Now, every time I see him around town he looks happy and four years later so does she.
