Imagine my horror at her words because my fondness of him was nonexistent. He was a worthless sneaky son of a, you know what and very untrusting. They were supposed to get married, but it was my guess that idea fizzled. My thought was: should my feelings be told to her or should my mouth stay quiet? My focus locked on to what she was saying.
“There is something in me that don’t want this. Something is saying it isn’t right,” she replied. It was unclear whether she said yes or no. One could gather that she was just having second thoughts about him.
‘Nico, maybe you are just nervous about the situation. You are marrying him right.’
‘It isn’t that. Would we be doing it for the wrong reasons? Would it be because of my father? I don’t know.’
‘Have you talked to Ant about this?’
‘No. Not in so many words.’
My heart dropped at the thought of her moving in with him. It was bad enough she even considered marrying him, but to move in with him meant she would be doing all the work. Anthony was so lazy. There was a part of me jealous that it was not me with her. As we walked around the corner, the distress in her face developed more, concerned about this life altering decision. The decision wouldn’t be tough because she was shown something that would help the decision.
We hadn’t told Lisa where we were going but we knew where to meet her at a certain time. As we walked pass Congress Street, Nico swears she saw Ant in one of the pay parking lots standing next to a Cavalier across the street. My senses didn’t get that because he drove a foreign car and that is what was expressed to Nico. As we moved closer and closer down the other side of the street, I just happened to glance over and my heart dropped. The woman that meant everything to me was standing across the street embracing none other than Anthony. Not thinking, my legs stopped, Nico asked, “What’s wrong?’ and that is when she saw the same sight. We both were standing in amazement, crushed at this unusual sight. The two of them were oblivious to the fact that we were across the street. Suddenly Nico shouted, “What the hell!?” and charged at him in full speed with fists ready to go. The street glistened under her feet as she ran to confront both of them. The corner streetlight shined brightly, unlocking the deception. My body couldn’t move as my eyes just stared at Lisa in disappointment. This was another woman that was placed on a pedestal only to disappoint. Still standing across the street, I began to move slowly near them.
‘Baby wait!’ he screams.
‘Shut up. Don’t say a mother-***** thing! Just shut up!’ she yelled.
‘She……….’ He uttered.
‘Shut up *****!’ She screamed as she ferociously pounded on him.
Those were the last words she spoke as she began beating him like he ran from the plantation. Not a second after she rushed him, my thought was to grab Lisa and head to the car before Nico got wind of her. Pulling Lisa away, we exchange words briefly.
‘Lisa, what in the hell were you doing?’
‘Nothing. We were just talking.’
‘With your arms wrapped around one another?’
“It’s not like that.”
‘You would lie to me like that,’ I replied.
‘I don’t know. You might go back and tell your girl. You two hang together anyway.’
‘What?’
‘You heard me. You both act like I don’t exist. I’m number one, not her,’ she uttered.
‘You are acting crazy. This isn’t like you.’
‘Please, since you been with her, you act like you don’t know me. When was the last time we really talked?’
‘Lisa, don’t try to turn this around on me and act like it was lack of attention. I don’t want to hear no bull****. This is the same shit I just went through. Why are you acting like this?’
‘Like what?’
‘Inconsiderate of our feelings. If you had a problem you could’ve talked to me.’
‘I know but……..’
‘You better fix this before Nico gets to you. Did you sleep with him?’
‘What?’
‘You heard me. Did you sleep with him?’
‘No! Not really.’
‘And the meaning of that is what?’
‘We didn’t have intercourse but he licked me. Look, I will just talk to her.’
Before we could speak any more, my eyes spotted Nico approaching with a fury unlike any seen in her before. Nico approached and calmly spoke to Lisa. Lisa recognized that this was a sensitive situation and listened to Nico carefully. Plus, it helped that she knew Nico could fight. We used to play fight and she hit hard, so I was just glad she was mad at Lisa and not me.
“Lisa, there will be one question out of my mouth. If you don’t answer the question legitimately, you will catch my foot up yo ass.’
‘What is the question?’
‘How long have you two been doing whatever?’
‘What?’ Lisa responded.
